Owner's representative
An independent professional appointed by the buyer to oversee a new build or major refit. Paid by the owner, with no commercial relationship to the yard.
The owner's representative manages the buyer's interests across yard selection, contract drafting, technical specification, build supervision, milestone inspection, snag-listing, and delivery acceptance. The independence test is whether the representative's income is contingent only on the buyer's instructions, with no yard commission, no broker referral, and no contingent-fee arrangement on closing.
