MCA seafarer medical certificate. Mandatory under STCW for crew working on commercial yachts. Two-year validity; first issue requires UK-approved doctor.
The ENG1 is the UK MCA's seafarer medical fitness certificate, equivalent to standards under STCW Regulation I/9. Crew on Red Ensign-flagged commercial yachts and many other flags require an ENG1 or equivalent. Validity is two years for under-18s, two years for over-18s with the next certificate due at least one month before the previous expires. Examination covers vision, hearing, cardiovascular, respiratory, mental health, and physical capacity.
